Disclosure Mechanics and Reporting Checklist [V5.0]

XBRL Cloud is pleased to announce another significant upgrade to the functionality available on CleanScore.

This functionality is available on our Beta site, but will be available in production in early January.

The underlying feature driving this release is an implementation of the Disclosure Mechanics and Reporting Checklist which serve as the basis for the Charles Hoffman's Campaign to Improve Disclosure Quality of XBRL-based Public Company Financial Reports Submitted to the SEC

The features available in the 5.0 release are as follows:
  • Support for Disclosure Mechanics and Reporting Checklist, as designed by Charlie Hoffman
  • New report page in the Evidence Package designed to quickly review and ensure consistency between Level 3 and Level 4 components in U S GAAP filings
  • Maintenance, stability, and performance enhancements

Major improvements for verifying calculations [v4.0]

The Version 4.0 release is a significant functional change because we have gone to great lengths to remove "noise" from calculations.  This reduction in noise should make it quicker and easier to review your filing.  The following items have been upgraded for this new release:
  • Major reduction in "noise" for XBRL Calculations and Roll Forwards. That is, previously, due to bleed through, sometimes the verifier was instructed to review sums that would never add up. Now, the calculations being verified should be the ones that count
  • Support for DQC V4.0
  • "Regular" HTML or XML Validation report (which is PROFILE_BASED for U S GAAP filings) now removes "bleed-through" calculations. This means that "XBRL Calculations", loosely, should only be flagged for "meaningful" calculations
  • Updates to IFRS validation due to IFRS having slightly different structural rules from U S GAAP
  • Visual verification (green cell) when members sum to the domain for any given component
  • Maintenance, stability, and performance enhancements

2017 Q1 Release [V3.2]

The main feature for this quarter's release is a major enhancement to calculation verification.

As you are certainly aware, XBRL Calculations cause "inconsistencies" to generate a lot of noise.  Specifically, calculations from one component "bleed through" to other components.  In fact, this happens so often--there is so much noise--that XBRL calculations are often ignored ... to the point that calculations that actually have an error are never corrected.

There are a new set of REVIEW signals now related to calculations.  In almost all cases, if you see one of these new calculation signals, there is either an error in the fact data, or the (original XBRL) calculation itself.

Note that this is an iterative process for us.  Specifically, we do not want to create false negatives.  That is, we don't want to duplicate any of the noise caused by XBRL Calculations.  To that end, we may not always locate up all "real" calculation errors.  On the other hand, the issues that we point out are almost always real issues--not noise.  We may release updates to this in the future to catch other real errors.

In addition to the above, there are these other upgrades:
  • Enhanced support for the 2017 U S GAAP taxonomy
  • Maintenance, Stability, and Performance Enhancements
Please note that new release is in Beta right now; the production release will be on April 3. 2017.
